The mission of the Chester County District Justice System is to provide professional, administrative and quality customer service to the public, law enforcement agencies and other county departments who utilize the services of the Seventeen Magisterial District Courts in order to provide access to justice at he minor judiciary court level.
The courts are responsible for processing motor vehicle violations, summary offenses, and local ordinance violations. Landlord/tenant matters and civil claims that do not exceed $12,000 are also processed. Criminal cases are filed at the appropriate District Court for arraignments and preliminary hearings.
District Justice Administration is responsible for the management of the District Courts under the direction of the President Judge. The duties include implementation of policies set by the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts (AOPC) and the preparation and management of the budget. In addition, District Justice Administration compiles statistical data, manages facilities and assets of the District Courts, supervises personnel, conducts audit reviews and administers the Teen Court Program.
